Four injured after car crashes into MD nail salon

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- Four women were injured on Friday evening when a driver crashed their car into a Maryland nail salon.

The incident occurred in the 55 hundred block of Cherrywood Lane in Greenbelt, the Prince George's County Fire Department said. The driver remained on the scene and was questioned by the Greenbelt City police, the fire department said.

The driver has been identified as a 52-year-old woman. The driver became confused when parking her car and hit the gas instead of the break, sending her car through the front window of the nail salon, police said.

The four female customers in the salon were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pedestrian dies after being struck in MD

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County Police say a man has died after being struck and killed while trying to cross a road in Greenbelt.

It happened about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at Greenbelt Road and Aerospace Drive. Police say 58-year-old Armado Fernandez of Greenbelt was crossing Greenbelt Road when he was hit by a car.

Officers say Fernandez died Wednesday at a local hospital. Investigators say he was not walking in a crosswalk.

Police say the driver who hit Fernandez remained at the scene.

DC man gets 9 years in Md. armed robberies

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- A twenty-eight-year-old D.C. man was sentenced to nine years in prison for two armed robberies in Prince George's County, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland announced Tuesday.

Gregory Evans, 28, of D.C. was sentenced to nine years, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, officials said. Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced the man.

Evansand and a co-conspirator robbed a store located in the 4100 block of Southern Avenue in Capitol Heights, Md. on January 22,2014, officials said. Evans and his co-conspirator held an employee at gunpoint and made the victim open the cash register. Evans took money from the register, while his co-conspirator held the gun to another employee's head and stole $785 from the victim's pockets, according to officials.

Police: Drunk driver hit trooper at traffic stop

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A drunk driver was behind the wheel in a collision that injured a trooper early Tuesday morning on the Inner Loop of the Beltway, according to Maryland State Police from the College Park Barracks.

According to state police, two troopers were searching a car he had stopped on the shoulder of the Inner Loop prior to the exit for Greenbelt Metro just after 2 a.m. when a drunk driver drifted his car and hit the vehicle that was being search. The impact of the collision took off the stopped vehicle's door.

A trooper was hit with a mirror, say police. He was transported to the hospital after suffering minor injuries.

The trooper has been identified as Corporal Brian Hirsch. He's an 11-year veteran assigned to the College Park Barrack.

2 DC robbers exiled to at least 12 years in prison

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two D.C. men were sentenced to 12 and 14 years in prison Monday for two counts of robbery and using a gun during a robbery, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland announced.

Jeffrey Louis Adams, 35, of D.C. and Antonio Lamont Gaithers, 33, also of D.C. were sentenced to 12 and 14 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, the United States Attorney's Office said. Adams has to pay restitution of $209,750 and Gathers is required to pay $241,000.

According to the US Attorney's Office, Gaithers and his co-conspirator Davon Williams were armed with guns, went into a Walmart located in Hyattsville, Md. and demanded money. They stole a total of $140,000 and fled in a getaway car. The robbery happened on October 7, 2011.
