Baltimore police officer suspected in murder/suicide incident

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are investigating a murder/suicide incident which left three people dead in Md. 

According to initial investigations, the suspect, who is a Baltimore police officer had a relationship with the female victim, police said. 

The incident happened at a home on Sunday at around 1:35 a.m. on the 1100 block of Armistead Road. Police found two men and one female suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. The suspect, Christopher Lee Robinson, 37, a Baltimore police officer is suspected to have shot the two victims. The male victim has been identified as Andrew Scott Hoffman, 27 who was with the Baltimore City Fire Department. The female victim is 26-year-old, Marie Leanne Edith Hartman, officials said. 

DC school closed due to 'inoperable boiler'

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Langley Elementary School is closed Friday due to an inoperable boiler.

Seventy six people were treated for carbon monoxide exposure at a school in D.C. Thursday, officials said.

That number included 56 students and 20 adults.  Six victims were taken to the hospital as a precaution.  The incident happened around 3:00 p.m. at Langley Elementary School located at 101 T St NE, officials said. 

The preliminary investigation shows that a faulty boiler in the  basement was the source of carbon monoxide, officials said.  The boiler in the school is currently not working and temperatures are expected to be near freezing on Friday. 

 

Missing Md. sex offender FOUND

COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County Police have located and arrested a sex offender that had gone missing.

Detectives have issued a warrant for Arthur Edward Spicer Jr., 37, who could not be located during a check of all registered sex offenders in the county.

Spicer's last known address was 6664 Dovecote Drive in Columbia, Maryland. There are two warrants for his arrest, one for the registry violation and one for failing to pay child support, officials said.

Police say they check on the registered sex offenders before Halloween to remind them that they cannot participate in Halloween.

Officers located all but one of the 104 sex offenders registered in Howard County.

Spicer was located at a friend's house in Laurel, Md., police said.

355 citations during 'Move Over' law crackdown

(WUSA9) -- Maryland State Police say approximately 335 citations and 484 warnings were issued for violations of the "Move Over" law as part of a crackdown.

Monday, troopers were out on the roads making sure that drivers approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with its lights activated to switch to another lane not next to the emergency vehicle, if it's safe to do so. If it is not safe to move over, drivers are supposed to slow down as they pass the scene.

Tuesday, state police said preliminary results revealed that troopers made approximately 1,411 traffic stops during the 24-hour period. Approximately 335 citations and 484 warnings were issued for violations of the 'Move Over' law during that time.

Additionally, troopers made 20 criminal arrests while issuing an additional 476 citations and 409 warnings for other traffic violations, according to police. Police say there were 97 repairs orders issued as well.

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - Two movie theaters in Prince George's County are airing public service announcements aimed at promoting safe sexual behavior.

The ads are running for 14 weeks at the movie theater at the Greenbelt mall and the Phoenix Big Cinemas Marlow 6 Theatre In Temple Hills.

The commercials feature Tray Chaney, a Prince George's native and actor who appeared in the HBO series, "The Wire." He's scheduled to appear at a November 16 promotion event at the Marlow 6 theater in Temple Hills.

The county health officer says Prince George's ranks second in the state of Maryland for HIV cases and sexually transmitted diseases.

SB BW Parkway reopens after car fire

BELTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Southbound lanes of the BW Parkway are reopen after a car fire Thursday morning.

The southbound lanes of BW Parkway were shut down at Powder Mill Road due to a vehicle fire and reopened around 4:40 a.m., according to U.S. Park Police.

There is no word on the cause of the fire, but it was not the result of a crash. There were no injuries.
