Burglary Prevention Tips from Greenbelt Police

Due to an increase in residential burglaries throughout the City, the Greenbelt Police Department is urging residents to takes steps to protect their homes. Patrol efforts have been stepped up city-wide, but residents are being reminded to lock their doors and windows and to keep their curtains and blinds drawn when not at home. In addition, residents should remember to arm their alarm systems when they leave if they have one. Also, as the holidays near, do not leave empty boxes from expensive items out for trash pick up. They should be broken down and placed in a bag to avoid indicating to a would-be burglar what valuables are in the home. As always, please report suspicious activity to the Greenbelt Police as soon as possible at 301-474-7200 (non-emergency) or 301-474-5454 (emergency). Remember, prevention is key to stopping crime.
