GREENBELT POLICE WARN RESIDENTS OF HOLIDAY SCAMS

The Greenbelt Police Department would like to remind residents to be careful of scams this holiday season. Currently, someone has been placing envelopes requesting donations for newspaper carriers in residents’ mailboxes. Some of these envelopes have been fraudulent. Always beware of unofficial letters and envelopes asking for donations. If you are unsure of the sender or recipient, call the company or business named on the document and ask for confirmation before you send any money. Also, never give out your personal information through the mail, online, or over the phone, unless you are sure who is receiving that information and how they are using it. Every year millions of people are victimized by identity theft. Prevention is key to stopping crime.
