SUNDAY, October 3, 2010. 1-4pm. Most activities FREE
Greenbelt Community Center
15 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770

Playing card crafts and magic tricks are featured at the Greenbelt Artful Afternoon on Sunday, October 3rd. All ages are welcome at this free event held at the Community Center located at 15 Crescent Road.

From 1:00pm-3:00pm, make your own playing card mini-notebooks with artist Mary Gawlik. Gawlik is a clay tile artist and teacher as well as a Greenbelt Artist in Residence.

A magic show inspired by children's literature from the “Cat in the Hat” to “Harry Potter” is presented by Joe Romano beginning at 3pm. Romano has worked with literally every major theme park in the country including Universal Studios, Knotts' Berry Farm, Six Flags, and Walt Disney Cruise Lines. He has appeared with Larry King, Celine Dion, and Ricky Martin. Just before the magic show, a drawing will be held for two tickets to IBEX Puppetry’s "Panther and Crane.” IBEX Puppetry’s Heather Henson carries forward the legacy of her father Jim Henson (UM ’60) through her own artistic vision. Panther and Crane tells the story of a young crane’s journey of survival through Florida’s ecosystem — its wild places and its
sprawling man-made landscapes. A second winner will receive two tickets to the performance of their choice at the Greenbelt Arts Center. Enter the drawing for free at the Greenbelt Community Center Art Gallery now through 2:30pm on October 3.

Greenbelt’s Artful Afternoon will also offer a studio open house and sale with the
Center’s Artists in Residence, plus tours of the Greenbelt Museum historic home. Artful Afternoon activities are open to the public and free, with the exception of a nominal fee for the house tour. This event is a great introduction to the many great art classes and activities offered by the City.
