Warm up with laughter and fun while you enjoy two shows at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive, during January.

"Hairspray," performed by the talented youth of the Musical Theatre Center, comes to Rockville early in the month. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 12, and Friday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The show will sweep viewers away to 1960's Baltimore, where the 50's are out - and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show." Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to vanquish the program's reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love without mussing her hair?

"The Royal Family," by the Rockville Little Theatre, will be performed later in the month. Performances are scheduled for Fridays, Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4, at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, at 2 p.m.

The play tells the story of Julie Cavendish, who comes from a family of great Broadway actors, with drama both on and off stage. Written by Edna Ferber and George Kaufman, this funny show premiered in 1930 and is reputedly based on the Barrymore family acting dynasty.

Tickets for "Hairspray" cost between $18 and $20, tickets for "The Royal Family" cost between $14 and $16. Tickets are available through the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre box office. To purchase tickets from the box office visit www.rockvillemd.gov/theatre or call 240-314-8690 between the hours of 2 and 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
