Boxer Convicted of 1st Degree Assault
Crime

This story comes to us from Ramón V. Korionoff:

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks announced that Circuit Court Judge Maureen Lamasney found Ronald Dion Boyd, 31, of Suitland, Maryland, guilty of first degree assault after he strangled and repeatedly punched his wife because she hugged another man at a nightclub.

The incident occurred last April and the defendant was a trained boxer.

Prosecutors successfully used testimony of the wife’s friend who witnessed the assault as well as her medical records that detailed the victim’s injuries.

In October, 2010 -- seven months following the assault -- the victim was shot dead outside of her home as she was getting in her car for work. That homicide is still under investigation.

Boyd will be sentenced for first degree assault on June 3.  The charge carries with it a prison term of up to 25 years in prison.

“This is yet another sad case that clearly demonstrates why we must take incidents of domestic violence so very seriously,” said Alsobrooks.  “I implore any woman or man who is the victim of domestic violence to come forward and seek help, from police, from prosecutors, from their neighbors.”
