1 dead after motorcycle crash in Greenbelt

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man is dead after crashing a motorcycle in Greenbelt, according to Prince George's County police.

Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 10:50 Tuesday night on Good Luck Road at the intersection of Greenbelt Road.

The police department originally tweeted that two motorcycles were racing in the westbound lanes of Goodluck Road when one of the drivers lost control and crashed.

In a later statement, police said that this was not an illegal racing incident and only one motorcycle was involved. Police say the driver, identified as 56-year-old Robert Edward Bailey, III, of Silver Spring, was traveling westbound on Greenbelt Road when he hit a curb and lost control, striking a guardrail.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The intersection was shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation. All roads reopened before 3:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
