Md. man guilty of sexually exploiting minor

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 24-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to sexually exploiting a minor to produce child pornography, authorities said.

The United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein along with other authorities announced that David Wayne Sweet, 24, of St. Leonard, Md. took 24 sexually explicit pictures of a girl.

Authorities said, the pictures were either taken while the prepubescent girl was either sleeping or naked in the bathtub.

According to his plea agreement, on September 19, 2013 the Calvert County Sheriff's Drug Enforcement Unit searched Sweet's home because of alleged drugs.

Deputies took Sweet's phone and found pictures of a young girl, which were taken between June and September 2013, authorities said.

Sweet had deleted the images, however deputies were able to get all of the pictures, authorities added.

He was arrested on September 27, 2013, authorities said. Sweet admitted that he had inappropriately touched the girl while she was sleeping and took pictures, authorities said.

Authorities said Sweet must register as a sex offender wherever he lives, where he is employed and wherever he is a student. This is under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) and part of Sweet's plea agreement.

The government and Sweet agreed if the Court accepts the plea agreement, he will get 20 years in prison.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 23, 2014, according to authorities.
