Children Found Wandering Street; Va. Mother Arrested

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Two children were found wandering in a neighborhood in Manassas on Friday morning, Prince William County Police said in a news release. 

The mother, Esmeralda Carolina Acosta Montoya, 28, of Manassas, was arrested about 45 minutes after police were notified that the kids were missing, police said. 

It happened at around 10:28 a.m., when a person called police, informing them that the caller had found the two children wandering, police said. 

"The caller located two children, a 3 year old girl and 5 year old boy, walking the area above unsupervised. The caller took the children to nearby Westgate Elementary School where police were notified. The investigation revealed that the accused had left the children in a locked room of the residence while she was gone for about for two hours," police said. 

Charged with two counts of felony child endangerment and she has been released on a $4,500 bond. 

Md. Mother And Child Critically Missing

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- Prince George's County Police are seeking your help in locating a critically missing mother and child. 

Police say 25-year-old Stefanie Anne Hamrick and her 1-year-old daughter, Leonay Heaven Inabnett went missing on Feb. 7 at about 5:30 p.m. 

They were last seen walking towards a bus stop in the 8500 block of Greenbelt Road. Family members told police they have had no contact with Hamrick since last Thursday, police say. 

Hamrick is described as a black female, about 5'5, 170 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes, and dark complexion. She was last seen wearing a pink jacket and blue jeans, police say.

Takoma Park Man Convicted On Drug, Gun Charges

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A Takoma Park man has been convicted of drug and gun charges.

Thirty-seven-year-old Corey Moore was convicted of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and other offenses on Monday. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years at sentencing May 30.

According to evidence presented at trial, Moore intended to sell powder cocaine and PCP and possessed the guns to further his drug trafficking.

PG Man Arrested In Murder Case

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A man was arrested in connection to a February 4th murder in Prince George's County, police said. 

Brandon Anthony Battle, 26, of Greenbelt, was taken into custody, charged with first and second degree murder, in the shooting death of Salaam Adams, of Durham, NC, police said. 

"On February 4, 2013, around 7:25 am, Maryland-National Capital Park Police officers responded to the 2600 block of Oxon Run Drive in Hillcrest Heights for a man down call. Upon arrival, police officers found Adams in Oxon Run Park, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene," police said in a news release.

Child In Hospital After Being Struck By Car

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA) -- A child was hit by a car and was taken to an area hospital, Greenbelt City Police said. 

The accident took place on the 6000 block of Breezewood Dr. at about 6:13 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the car stayed on the scene after the incident. 

Authorities have not released the age, gender or severity of the child's injuries.
