According to Prince George's County Public School's,  More than 50 Prince George's County Public Schools students and staff as well as community members and business partners will be honored Tuesday, December 13 at the Prince George's County Board of Education awards ceremony taking place Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale. Participants will be recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Recipients include Scholars of the Week, Teachers of the Month, National Achievement and National Merit Scholarship semifinalists and Healthy Schools Program Champion.

Henrique Vissotto, foreign language teacher at Laurel High School, is among 21 educators nationwide selected as Healthy Schools Program Champions by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation.

Celebrating the fifth consecutive year of its grant program supporting nationwide Educator for a Day events,The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walkden University announced the five preK–12 schools that will receive $5,000 grants to enhance their classroom education,provide educational technology or supplies, or sponsor special educational activities.

James Madison MS, Frederick Douglass HS Join Prestigious IB Network

James Madison Middle School and Frederick Douglass High School are now officially part of the network of campuses that offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme.

An extension of the rigorous IB Diploma program, the Middle Years Programme’s guiding philosophy is to develop an academically-proficient, globally-minded learner. Frederick Douglass and James Madison had been working collaboratively towards becoming IB World Schools since 2008. The schools received notification on Oct. 17 that they were formally authorized to offer the Middle Years Programme, making them the only IB World Schools in Prince George’s County Public Schools.
